The Lower Class

1. Judi Dielman



Judi is happy with Lucia's decision to settle down. In fact, as a good friend of Lucia's and a generally agreeable person, Judi agrees with most everything that Lucia does. Judi was excited to meet all of the new men on the boat, and sure enough, she fell in love... twice! Judi's natural magnetism and open personality brought her not one but two men! At the moment, she's dating Robbie Johnston, but she worries that he's just a bit more popular than her, and that he has a higher societal status. She has also been having secret meetings with Joel Thomas, and she wonders if maybe he would be better for her. Who will Judi choose in the end? Will Robbie and Joel ever find out about each other?

2. Kim (Wormly) Cinders



A reluctant pirate from the start, Kim was only part of the crew to escape from cruel parents and a dead end future. She was never a good fit as a pirate- her true desire was always to write amazing novels! But Kim did love being outside, so she joined the crew and reassured herself that everything gave her more experiences to write about. When Lucia announced that they were joining the others on their journey to found a new kingdom, Kim was overjoyed. She soon formed a friendship with Erin Parker over their love of art. And, to her complete shock, Kim also found a husband. Her courtship with Andrew Cinders was short and sweet, and they were so in love that they married on board! Some of the others think that Andrew is a bit strange, but Kim doesn't care.

3. Andrew Cinders



Andrew has always been a bit unusual. Happier living alone in the forest with trees and plants as his companions, no one was quite sure where he came from. Some even said that he was the child of a tree nymph. Everyone was even more shocked when he emerged from his forest to announce that he was going to the new kingdom. No one was quite sure how he had found out about the voyage, but they let him come. When Andrew met Kim on the boat, he fell in love instantly. He had never met someone who accepted him for who he was the way she did- and they both loved reading and the outdoors! Andrew is very excited to start a family with Kim in the new kingdom, as well as to create a new garden of his own!

4. Jack Trader



Jack joined the crew spontaneously one day the second he laid eyes on Lucia- it was love at first sight! Unfortunately, Lucia never showed the slightest interest in him. Jack still loves her, but he's become an expert at hiding his feelings. Now that the pirates are settling down, Jack hopes that he will be able to win Lucia's affection in the new kingdom. It doesn't help that he can't seem to gain any status though, and remains in the masses of poor unknowns while Lucia rises up higher and higher every day. In the mean time, Jack has begun an informal relationship with Georgia, a popular and rich woman who's a sucker for compliments. Jack hopes that through his connection to her, he may gain status of his own.

5. Fitzwilliam Devehart



Fitzwilliam was raised in poverty, but his mother always stressed the need for him to advance his station in life. Fitzwilliam joined the pirate crew to make some money and gain the leverage to become a noble, but he always considered himself better than the other pirates in both intelligence and personal charisma. Now, he sees the new kingdom as a chance to make his move towards the throne. On the journey, Fitzwilliam discovered Monique Chevalier, a kindred soul looking to woohoo as many men as possible in her quest to gain status. The two quickly got together, and before long decided to marry in the ultimate relationship of convenience, with the agreement that they could see other people. With the lovely Monique at his side and plans for advancement, Fitzwilliam is sure that he will soon be a noble. He has already begun the first phase of his plan- woohooing with Kira Ashton, a prominent noblewoman on his boat.

6. Monique (Chevalier) Devehart



Monique joined the travelers at a stop along the way simply for the men- she'd already woohooed all the good looking ones (and many that weren't) in her small coastal village. Fitzwilliam stood out from the beginning as a promising one, and Monique has full confidence that their marriage will open her up to the high society that she craves to be part of. With her expert seduction skills, her propensity to take big risks (for big gains), and a dash of luck, Monique is sure that she'll be a success in all that she tries. Monique has already decided to disregard the popular fashions of the kingdom- why wear modest clothes when you look infinitely cuter in a short one that the kind of dress that shows it all off?

7. Jamie Lithnburg



Jamie is a simple enough girl who decided to travel to the new kingdom just because it seemed like an exciting idea. She doesn't expect to be one of the decision-makers or anything, but she is hoping to raise a large, happy family. She is also happy to finally be on land again, so that she can surround herself with plants. Jamie's always had a knack for growing beautiful, healthy plants. Jamie didn't sleep very well on the journey (she's always had a hard time sleeping anywhere but her own bed), and wasn't her usual self, so she didn't really make many friends. She did develop a hatred for Yoko Usagi, however, when Yoko tried to give her some condescending advice on how to grow better plants. The two of them are now enemies.

8. Melody Night



For as long as her family goes back, the first born female child has always been... gifted. Melody and her ancestors are able to see into the murky paths of the future and discover what will occur. Melody doesn't know how she feels about her ability. Sometimes, it seems more like a curse than a blessing, especially when her power marks her out as different from everyone else. Even worse is what is forbidden to those of her power: marriage. Melody must have at least one female child, but she is never allowed to commit herself to another person above her duty to read the future. Melody left because she wanted the chance to start a new life, away from the oppressive presence of her mother and grandmother, constantly telling her how to channel her powers. On the boat, she fell in love with Jesse Frank, a hired cook for the ship who knows nothing about her family or her past. How will Melody tell Jesse that they can never be more than just romantic interests?

9. Jesse Frank



Jesse got himself a spot on the boat by working as a low level cook under Jimmy Thomas. So what if he's in about as low of a class as he can be- not like he'll stay that way! Jesse hopes that between his friendly personality and his phenomenal cooking skills, he can rise up in rank and receive the honor that is due to a hardworking individual such as himself. There's certainly more room for advancement here then at home, where he was just one of hundreds of lowly kitchen servants. Jesse's passion in life is cooking- he loves putting together different substances to create something delicious! But lately, Jesse has been feeling just as passionate for Melody Night, the amazing, mysterious woman he met on the boat. He hopes that one day she will tell him all of her secrets.

10. Isaac Couper



Leaving home was the scariest thing that Isaac ever did in his life, but he knew that he had to. Leaving behind a father who criticized him no matter what he did, Isaac would finally be free to pursue his dream of learning the art of medicine. Isaac has no grand dreams- all he wants is to help people who can't afford to hire a fancy, expensive doctor. Isaac's biggest fear is that he'll never be able to find a woman to love and start a family with. Will Isaac be able to achieve it all in the new kingdom?

11. Erin Parker



Erin's always been a little bit crazy, so no one in her overly large family was very surprised when she decided to leave on the boat. The fourth daughter of a poor family, Erin was overlooked and never expected to amount to much of anything. She wasn't the prettiest, the smartest, or the most hard-working, and she had a tendency to sneak off to paint when she should have been tending to the chickens or weeding the garden. Erin left with vague dreams of meeting Prince Charming during the voyage and getting swept away on horseback to the castle of her dreams, where they would raise a large family together. Imagine her surprise when there wasn't a single prince in sight! And to add insult to injury, some pirate woman named Lucia had the nerve to ask her to fetch some food for her, as if Erin was a common servant! Needless to say, Erin and Lucia are now enemies. Erin did find a friend in Kim Cinders however, a kind woman who married during the voyage.

12. Amber Tuf



Amber took one look at the boat on the departure day, and she had to go. Amber's always been like that- she could never resist a good toy, and the boat had so many cool gadgets to discover and play with. Amber's older brother called her a child for wanting to leave just because of a dumb boat, but he wasn't laughing when she hid on the boat, now was he? Amber still laughs imagining him telling Mother that he couldn't find her, that she must've left on the boat. It was a spontaneous move, but completely worth it! Besides, in the new kingdom Amber would be able to write about everything. She had vague fantasies of writing true stories in a form that people would actually want to buy! But Amber knew she made the right choice when she met Akua Owusu- otherwise known as the man of her dreams! He's smart, witty, good looking, and interesting. Too bad she only said about two words to him throughout the voyage! Will Amber achieve her dreams and win Akua's affections?

13. Fran Stein



Nobody knew of Fran when she showed up at the boat, demanding entry. To be honest, everyone was too scared to say no. She was a strange one for sure, always seeming to get pleasure out of others' misfortunes. She also had the habit of constantly mooching food and money off of others- it got rather annoying! Kira Ashton was always willing to give Fran some money, but when Fran demanded that Kira give her everything she owned, that was the end of it! Now the two of them hate each other. Fran's only friend is Janice York, another woman who feels isolated and different from the other travelers. Will Fran fit in among the kingdom, or is she just too unusual?

14. Kyler Maddox



Ever since he was young, Kyler worked as a spy for the King. The work always got him excited. He felt special, somehow more important than his good-for-nothing brothers that hang around the taverns when they should be bringing money in for the family. One day, it occurred to Kyler that the monarch in the new kingdom would need a spy, and that if he moved in fast he could probably become the head of security. Each day, Kyler waits anxiously to learn who will be King or Queen so that he can offer his services. In the midst of all his spying will Kyler actually have time to make friends?
